Jagori releases new songs on ending violence, redefining masculinities

Jagori announces the launch of its latest song CD “Hinsa Mitayen, Pyar Phailayen” (Eliminate Violence, Spread Love). It  contains  14 songs composed by well known feminist Kamla Bhasin; these are based on themes of ending violence against women, involving men and boys in the movement for gender justice, and the ongoing One Billion Rising campaign. Themes are addressed in various ways, with positivity and some humour. Songs are in Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, English.

Jagori acknowledges the contributions of music band Rajasthan Roots, Benita Shivkumar, Rude, McAk, Radhika Ganesh, Manisha Chaudhry, Runu Chakraborty, Meenu Vadera and Ranu Bhogal; Kshitij Studio and Prakash Kumar Thakur in the making of this CD.

Violence, gender and WASH – a practitioner’s toolkit

Although the lack of access to appropriate sanitation, hygiene and water services is not the root cause of violence, it can lead to increased vulnerabilities to violence of varying forms, with incidences reported from a wide range of contexts. In response, SHARE, with support from DFID, has developed a toolkit designed to help practitioners to better recognise the risks of violence linked to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and provide guidance on what practitioners can do to reduce these vulnerabilities to violence.

Co-published by 27 organisations including Jagori and launched on 9th June 2014, this practitioner’s toolkit focuses on increasing understanding of the scale and specific nature of the problem.  It brings together evidence, best practice, tools and policy responses to help make WASH safer and more effective – particularly for women and girls and people from marginalised groups.

Obituary: Bindia Thapar (1957-2014)

We deeply mourn the loss of Bindia Thapar (1957-2014), she was an architect and illustrator, who gave colour and form to countless posters and books of Jagori. We will always remain inspired by her boundless generosity, creativity and amazing resilience. She will be missed by us.

National Feminist Counselling Workshop 2014

Since 2004, Jagori has put a structured feminist counselling intervention in place for women seeking support.  Feminist counselling is a process of working with women facing violence by recognizing that violence against women is a consequence of patriarchal institutions and structures.  This value system recognizes the agency of a woman and works to enable her to use this agency to end violence.

With reference to this Jagori is organizing a National Feminist Counselling Workshop, in Hindi, from 8th April to 11th April 2014 at Zorba The Buddha, 7 Tropical Drive, Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, Ghitorni, New Delhi.
