The pilot project which was designed on the basis of gender audit is partially executed, leading to the unsafe conditions for women to commute between Delhi Gate and Ajmeri Gate. The pavements which were supposedly built for the commuters are taken over by hawkers and hospital ambulances resulting to the unsafe conditions of commuting specially women.

The need for well managed and safe forms of public transports bring in the need of resultant impact in terms of safety and accessibility of public services by women. Excess of dependency on autos, rickshaws, RTVs and others by women, shows the inefficiency of public services for transport.

Delhi has became unsafe for women during night and day, with increasing incidences of harassment, stalking and other forms of violence that are being perpetrated against tem.  This has a tremendous impact on women as they feel unsafe.

Justice seems no where, when it comes to addressing the harassment and rape issues by the state law and order is concerned.  It calls for a proper mapping of the unsafe areas of the city and steps to curb violence against women.

City planning needs to focus on the usage of space and infrastructure at public spaces in order to make them safe for women. This would entail having streets that are well lit and well used, easily available and good public transport, and public spaces that promote usage in addition to a responsive police system and efficient service providers.

A conglomeration of women’s groups across India, demanded a grievance cell to help regulate working conditions in dance bars in Mumbai. It was jointly initiated by the Bar Dancers’ Association and other women’s organizations after a Bombay high court judgment in 2006.
