It was like coming out to the ‘angan’ or courtyard in front of the house, to greet all who were present there. This represented a major shift that was happening during this period, as the women’s movement was taking shape, more women were coming out on streets proudly asserting their common identity as women; they were also responding to rising communal tension around them. It became a collective space for women of dierent identities, geographical areas and constituencies to come together in solidarity and celebration.
