Songs are a part of the everyday lives of women and have been a medium of expression for sharing many unspoken and silenced emotions. JAGORI has played a pioneering role in capturing these songs and their tunes in songbooks and cassettes and facilitating their outreach to every part and corner of the country. Many songs have also emanated from the very struggles of the women´s movement in India and other people´s movements such as the movement against communalism, the anti-liquor movement, struggles for political rights, the peasants movement, environmental protection movement, etc. These songs have broken barriers of class, caste, religion and language having a unifying effect on women from all walks of life as they realise the uncanny similarity of their personal experiences. JAGORI songbooks and cassettes have been extensively used in the movement to churn the passions of people who have pledged to work towards making an equal world possible. Over the years, we have produced eight cassettes, five exist in a set containing songs intimately related to women´s lives, questioning patriarchy while demanding for equal rights and building solidarity; three exist separately which are songs on breaking silences, peace and a collection of songs for children, respectively. The lyrics of all songs have been made available through three of our song books.
